Previous Events - Chabad WA Menorah Lighting, 04.12.07

 “If you build it they will come” is a famous quote from the movie Field of Dreams. The same quote applied on Tuesday, 4 December (Erev Chanukah), when Chabad WA hosted a public menorah candle lighting for Perth’s Jewish Community at the Ben Gurion Reserve in Yokine.

It was a Field of Jews as hundreds of men, women and children of all ages and all walks of life gathered around a larger-than-life menorah. The crowd recited the prayers and sang in unison to “Maoz Tzur”, led by Rabbi Shalom White and the talented Troy Mellet.

Special guests included Judah the Maccabee and a Greek solider who happily greeted everyone and posed for photographs. The children enjoyed seeing the characters from biblical times and also helped build a giant menorah out of Lego. And what would a Jewish event be without food? Hotdogs, donuts, corn and drinks were on offer all night. Chabad WA would like to invite the community back again next year for another special evening.
